The National Wound Care Strategy Programme commissioned the Professional Record Standards Body (PRSB) to develop a wound care information standard, which has been published this week.
Information needed for the effective assessment, management, maintenance and prevention of chronic wounds is defined by the standard, which specifically covers lower limb (leg and foot wounds), pressure ulcers and surgical wounds.
Developed using evidence and consultation with people and professionals including tissue viability nurses, podiatrists, and surgeons, the standard enables consistent recording and sharing of wound care information with all those involved in the person’s care. It supports the National Wound Care Strategy Programme’s goal to reduce pain and suffering and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of wound care services.
